A Lifetime of Service

For more than forty-two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving families across the United States in many roles — as a nanny, postpartum doula, lactation mentor, birth and bereavement doula, end-of-life companion, death doula, and traditional midwife.

I’ve worked in Arizona, Connecticut, rural northeast Nevada, southern Illinois, the St. Louis metropolitan area, and southern Kentucky, as well as internationally and virtually when needed.

I began my journey through the apprenticeship model, enrolled in the Ancient Arts Midwifery Institute, and have remained a lifelong learner ever since. I continue to study and refine my skills, particularly in off-grid living and “low-tech, no-tech” birth and postpartum practices that keep us connected to the wisdom of our ancestors.

Leadership and Dedication

I became certified through Madriella in 2010 and went on to serve as Head of the Madriella Advisory Board from 2013 to 2020. During that time, I:

  • Oversaw the 2014 curriculum revision for Madriella’s doula program.

  • Helped create the separate postpartum certification.

  • Designed the 2017 curriculum release that added Childbirth Education and Placenta Specialist certifications.

As the public face of Madriella for seven years, I mentored countless doulas and became a trusted guide within the birth community. That season of leadership taught me the value of mentorship, collaboration, and the power of shared wisdom among birthworkers.

My Work and Credentials

I am a certified doula and childbirth educator serving families with evidence-based, compassionate care.

I’m also a retired midwife, and I want to clarify what that means. My former midwifery credentials were tribal in nature — recognized within a specific cultural and community context. They were never intended for use under Arkansas or federal medical licensing frameworks. I honor that part of my past, but it isn’t a path I intend to return to.

Today, my professional focus is doula care and childbirth education. I don’t perform midwifery care or provide medical or surgical services. My work centers on emotional, physical, and informational support, helping families make confident, informed decisions while being cared for by licensed medical professionals when needed.

My approach blends decades of experience with the heart of mentorship. I believe in birth as a sacred partnership — a collaborative effort between families, doulas, and healthcare providers. Together, we aim for one shared goal: a healthy baby and a healthy mother.
